Nelson the Owl

Recently, I bought a kit from Stacey Trock for a Valentine version of her famous pattern Nelson the Owl (the link in the caption goes to the pattern's Ravelry page). I'm really excited because this is my first Nelson and he's 100% wool! Such a worthy investment in buying the kit. I'm even considering putting beads around the heart that will go on his chest! We'll have to see though.

Well, that's all for now! As usual I'm linking up with Working in Progress Wednesdays over at Tami's Amis and the Yarn Along over at Ginny's!

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Little Steps Go a Long Way

Hey guys!

I don't have many FOs to share with you think week, but I wanted to show you a few things.

I made this coffee sleeve back in December, but I just got around to taking photos of it right now. It is the same pattern as the first coffee sleeve I made, and I still love the pattern just as much. I've discovered that I cannot use a knitted coffee sleeve while wearing the mittens my sister made me for Christmas however. I greatly fear dropping my coffee because of the yarn-on-yarn contact, and have to use both hands or take off a mitten. Oh well! Even small steps toward a greener life makes a huge difference in the long run, right?

I also made new door tags for my residents this semester. They're keys, and I love them.

Well that's all I have this week. As usual, I'm linking up with Tami's Amis. Have a blessed Friday!

Happy Friday!

It's finally Friday! I'm so thankful that God has sustained me through such a long and stressful week of classes, and that it is a four day weekend! Praise the Lord!

I wish I had some FOs to share with you this week, but alas, due to school I was unable to accomplish any crafting whatsoever. I have been reading a lot though! Mostly boring essays for my literary theory class however. Oh well! Classes will get more exciting once we enter into our novels.

I most wanted to post today as a suggestion from Lisa over at Happy in Dole Valley, to inform everyone of how I fixed my Blogger/Picasa photo issues.
For everyone who did not know, I recently reached my data limit on the number of photos I could upload for my blog into Blogger's photo database, Picasa. I reached this limit rather suddenly and without even realizing it. I was very frustrated for a while because I thought that I would have to get a new URL for my blog and start over on another server, or pay monthly for more space. Considering the payment options were unclear as to whether the data you could purchase was another limit or if you received a growing amount of GB ever month, combined with being a poor college student, I decided to look into free options. I was at a loss however until Lisa, bless her heart, informed me of a blog post full of information on different photo hosting websites from which you can upload photos to Blogger to continue your blog as a free user. She sent me over to this blog post, and from there I learned how to upload photos onto my blog while avoiding uploading them into Picasa. All of my photos have been uploaded from ImageShack for my recent posts, and it was a really simple fix!

Well, that's all I have for today.
God bless, and have a fabulous weekend!

A Long Awaited Christmas Wrap Up

Hi guys! I know it's been some time since my last post, but I finally got around to implementing some of the changes that Lisa from Happy in Dole Valley so kindly told me about. This is my first attempt at putting up photos again, so hopefully it works. Most of these FOs are from this Christmas, but two are from last year that I got pictures of this Christmas. Okay, here goes.

I'm pretty sure that I put this up a few months ago, but I made this elephant for my Grandma. She absolutely loved it. My favorite part though was that my Grandpa immediately put it in their Christmas tree.

I made this dishcloth set for my cousin Ashley. She will be going off to college in the fall, so I thought that they would be a nice, practical gift. They were also super easy because they are purely Stockinet Stitch with a Garter Stitch border.

I made these towels for my church's Angel Tree. They were pretty fun, but not my favorite to make.

I made this little elephant for my sister, Charlotte. She loved it, which makes sense because she actually picked out both the pattern and the yarn at the beginning of the summer.

This was part of the Mystery Dishcloth Along that I take part in once a month. It was December's, and I gave it to my mom. I'm not particularly happy with it because it is kind of hard to tell what it is, but that's what you get with a mystery!

I made this Build-a-Bear sweater for my little cousin. It's her favorite color, and she absolutely loves it. I loved how easy it was to make! I definitely plan on making more sweaters soon.

I made this for my Grandpa. He loves simple hats like this, and my sister has made him two before this, and he loved it. I love that it only took me one afternoon to complete.

I actually made this for my Grandma last year, I just forgot to get pictures of it. I love the pink.

This was also made last year, but for my Grandpa. He is always losing his glasses, so my sister and I made a matching set of cases for him. One for his house, and one for his camper. I made the green, and Charlotte made the brown.

I made this potholder for my Grandma. The color isn't exactly right in the picture, and my only complaint with the pattern is that it is very slow moving. Other than that it turned out nice and thick.

This was made for my Aunt who absolutely adores Christmas. She loves the design, and immediately set it on display in her house (not the intended purpose for a dishcloth, but with her you know that's coming). The color is the same as the potholder, and I love the way it turned out. You know, except for the pictures.

This hat was a Christmas present for myself. It was my first attempt at cables; I'm not afraid of them anymore! If I had to redo it I would make the diamonds  a tad taller, but other than that I'm super happy with it.

As usual if you want to read my notes or see more pictures, just click the captions for my Ravelry pages.
I'm so glad I got this picture problem taken care of. Thanks again Lisa!
Until next time!

Some Pictureless FOs

Hello everyone!

I hit my photo limit, so I unfortunately cannot put pictures on my blog of my FOs this week, but I will put the links to Ravelry if you want to go check them out yourself! I'm currently working on a solution to the problem, so if anyone has any ideas at all, please let me know in the comments!

Okay, so this hat was commissioned by one of my coworkers, Bentley, for her boyfriend's birthday in December. I've made this pattern before, so the most exciting part was when she asked me to create a "tag" on the inside with his name. She was so excited about this that I just couldn't say no.If you want to see pictures of that or read my notes, just click the link.

This hat I made to kill time before I could begin my next project. It was just for stash busting, so there is no real purpose for which it was made, and there is a gigantic mistake near the bottom, but other than that I am satisfied with it. I haven't decided what I want to do with it yet. If you want to see pictures or my notes, just click the link!

Again, I apologize for the lack of pictures. I'm trying to find a solution, so if you have any advice at all about how to fix this, just let me know in the comments!

If you would like to see more FOs, head on over to Tami's Amis!

FOs for Work!

New bulletin boards were due today. One had to focus on the holiday season (the one on the left) and one could be a board of our choice (the one on the right). For the my choice board, I chose to do one on studying for exams, since finals are quickly approaching in December.

I also made a scarf for one of my old roommates! She picked out both the pattern and color, and wanted to pay me for the project. I told her it was on the house because I love her (and I was not entirely happy with how it turned out, although she loves it). As usual, if you want to see more pictures or read my notes you can click the caption!

I have some more yarn FOs, but no one to model for me. I will be able to get pictures of those for you next Friday though!

If you would like to see more FOs, head on over to Tami's Amis!

Cowl Swap

For those of you who don't know, I am part of a group on Ravelry called Fresh Stitches, and a few members of the group are doing a Cowl Swap. Each participant made six granny squares and sent five of them into the event coordinator, keeping one square for themselves. Then the coordinator put matching colors together, and sent five new squares made by five different people back to the participants of the exchange. The squares should arrive Saturday!
That's why I wanted to share this with you today. It will be the last Wednesday that this is a work in progress, as it will be an FO after Friday, and as soon as I get my squares. I'm so excited!

I'm still reading God's Heart for You. I hit a snag and haven't been reading lately, but I plan on picking it back up as soon as I can!

If you'd like to see more WIPs, head on over to Ginny's or Tami's!

Some Overdue FOs

I have waited a long time to show you guys these FOs. Remember that Summer Project I did with Campus Crusade for Christ? In Chicago, Illinois? Well one of the Cru staff families that was on that project with me was moving to my campus this fall! I have been patiently waiting for them to get here so I could give them this present I made them (with some help from my sister). The bears were for their children (one for each) and the dishcloths and potholders (which I don't have pictures of because my sister made them) were for their home. I put it all in an OU colored bag, and delivered it to them at their first Cru event! I received a text from one of them this morning thanking me and telling me they greatly appreciated the gift and that their kids love the bears. I'm glad; It was all to help them feel welcome in Athens and at OU.

Halloween CAL

A group I am a part of on Ravelry (FreshStitches) did a Halloween CAL for the month of October. The leader of the group, Stacey, had recently designed several free monster patterns. I immediately fell in love with Lark, and decided to make him for that CAL.
Stacey's patterns are all completed in back loops only which gives him an interesting texture and look. He turned out much larger than I anticipated, but I am totally okay with that. He also worked up fast and easy. I originally planned on making him a girl (because he's purple), but after completion it is easy to tell that he is definitely a boy. I fell in love with him immediately. I haven't decided what I want to do with him yet though. He will either be incorporated into my Christmas presents, added to my Baby Box, or sent in to the Purple Stitch Project. Right now I'm leaning toward the latter. What do you guys think?

A GAP-tastic Update

Remember my WIP last week? How I told you that I would have ample time to work on my cowl because I worked all weekend? Well I didn't get as much completed as I thought I would, but it is now half done! My plan is to use all of two skeins of yarn; one is gone, so I only have half to go!

I'm still reading God's Heart for You; it is such a good devotional! I want to do more than one chapter a day, but I'm restraining myself. I can't wait to give you a full review when I finish it!

If you want to see more WIPs, head on over to Ginny's or Tami's Amis!

A GAP-tastic Cowl

Hello again! I'm really excited to show you this cowl; I've been working on it for some time. It has been frogged, restarted, and now proceeds to crawl toward completion. I love how simple the pattern is (it is purely Seed Stitch), and it's good for some mindless knitting while sitting in class, or watching the Presidential debates.

I'm still reading God's Heart for You by Holley Gerth. I haven't picked it up recently, but only because I haven't had time to read. I still love the book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new devotional.

If you would like to see more works in progress, head on over to Ginny's and Tami's Amis!

Little OU Amigurumi Elephant

He's finally finished! One of my coworkers commissioned an OU colored elephant from me for his girlfriend, and I finally finished it. I looked and looked for an Ohio University pennant to put in the picture in addition to the mug, but I couldn't find one. Anyway. This is probably the third or fourth elephant I've made with this pattern, and it worked up much the same as the last ones. The only difference is that this elephant is twice the size of the others! This was unavoidable by making it speckled, but Paul is okay with it, and that's all that matters. If you'd like to see more pictures or read my Ravelry notes, just click the caption.

I also completed one of my bulletin boards today. They aren't due until next week, but I'll be gone next Friday so I decided to get a jump on the process. What do you guys think? I'm pretty satisfied with it!
By the way, I know how to spell Halloween. It's about safety for Ohio University's Halloween party, so I purposefully spelled Halloween with an OU.

OU Oh Yeah!

One of my staff members, Paul, commissioned an OU themed Elephant from me. If you've been following my blog for some time now, you'll know that I've made two of these elephants before now (blog posts about these previous elephants can be found here and here), and when he saw photos of my FOs, he decided that he had to have one. Well, technically it's not for him, but still. I only have three and a half legs left, plus stuffing and sewing, so hopefully it will be done by Friday so I can show you!

I'm still reading Gods Heart For You. I've completed ten chapters so far, and I still love the book. I would definitely suggest it to anyone interested in a new devotional. Holley Gerth is a great author.

A Long Overdue Present

I finished my little pig on Wednesday! My friend Stacie bought me the yarn last fall so I could make her a pair of gloves. She was even going to let me keep the leftovers! But realistically I will never make another pair of those gloves, so part way through making this little guy, I thought "I'll give him to Stacie!" She loves him so much. And her birthday is actually tomorrow. I'm so excited for her. My notes and more pictures can be found on my Ravelry page, linked to in the caption.

A Pig and a... Dishcloth?

Hello all! It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means: Yarn Along and WIP Wednesday!

If you remember, last week I told you about the pig I was making while at work. Well this week I worked on him during my Ice Cream Social program on Monday night, and I finished the body! His tail isn't visible because I wanted to show you his cute little face. This is all I have completed so far.

Another WIP I have is the Mystery Group Dishcloth KAL that my sister and I do twice a month. As you can see, I haven't started it yet, but I can't wait to see what it will become! We can use either solid or variegated yarn this time, and whatever size needles we want (I'm using sevens). The KAL began today, and this one is all about practicing technique. If you're interested in joining, just click the photo caption!

I finished Othello on Monday (which means I got it done early because it doesn't have to be completed until tomorrow). It was super good! Shakespeare is a literary genius. And since we're not starting King Lear until next week, I decided to pick up this book that I bought over the summer. It is also very well written. I love how real Holley is at the beginning about how she struggled to wake up every morning for Quiet Time (even when she bribed herself with chocolate!). I also love the message it gives its readers about how women are wonderfully made in the Lord. Way to go Holley Gerth!

I Give a Hoot!

What do you guys think? I made her because I needed a break from some of my current projects (I just could not handle them anymore). She took about four hours to complete. My biggest complaint with the pattern is that the head is made completely into a ball, so sewing it onto the open end of the body is a little difficult.

But anyway. If you would like to see more finished objects, head on over to Tami's Amis!

Oink, Oink!

As you have probably guessed from the title, I'm working on an Amigurumi Pig!

All I have done so far is part of the body and the tail (progress is slow moving because I'm working on it while I'm at work, so I have to keep stopping when customers come). I really love the pattern so far though (it's a Lion Brand pattern, and I've never had a problem with their patterns before). It's a little ball; what could possibly be more fun than a small pig ball!? I can't wait to finish it!

Right now I'm reading Shakespeare's Othello. I've never read it before, have only read Act 1 so far, and am already in love with it. Shakespeare is such a literary genius.

If you would like to see more works in progress, head on over to Tami's Amis. Another good place to find wips (and the occasional good book to read) is over at Ginny's!

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Yoga Bow Pose Dishcloth

It's done! I know it's a little late to be posting about finished objects, but I thought I'd share what the Mystery Dishcloth KAL turned out to be. As you can tell by the caption, it is the Bow Pose in Yoga. It's a little interesting and I wouldn't have picked it on my own, but it was fun because it was a mystery! If you would like to see my Ravelry notes or more pictures, just click the caption!

Bulletin boards were also due by midnight tonight.

This is my first board. The requirements? At least one event for Parent's Weekend (which is next week). I decided to put the event schedule! Well, most of it. I had to cut out a few events from Friday and Saturday because I had no room. Sunday does not have many events because parents usually leave early in the day.

This is my second board. There were no requirements for this one, and I did it on why you should have plants in your dorm room! The incentive? They reduce stress, muscle tension, and your likelihood of contracting an illness. Studies have also shown that plants improve your interactions with other people. I really love how it turned out, and I couldn't have done it without my sister, Charlotte. She helped me plan it last night.

If you would like to see more finished objects, head on over to Tami's Amis!

Poetry and a Mystery

Oh my goodness. Jenn is posting on a Wednesday again! It's exciting isn't it? Well, at least I'm excited!

One of my classes this semester is a Creative Writing Poetry class, and one of the books we need to read is Opened Ground. It's a collection of poems by Seamus Heaney. We haven't read a lot of it so far, but I really like what I have read.
I'm also doing a mystery dishcloth KAL with Knit Dishcloths KALs on Ravelry. Since this is the first one of the month, it is just a simple stockinet/reverse stockinet picture dishcloth. A few rows of the pattern appear every day until it is completed. Today is day 3, and it should be done on Friday. I can't wait to show you guys the finished object!

If you would like to see more WIPs check out Tami's Amis and Ginny's!

Until next time!

There is a DRAGON on the loose...

Hello! I have something very exciting to share with you...

As promised, I finished my dragon. She was completed last Saturday, but I have yet to come up with  a name for her. Maybe Daisy? Daisy the Dragon? I don't know (feel free to comment with suggestions). But she was so much fun to make. This was the first FreshStitches pattern that I have completed, but I can tell you that I have more of her patterns on my list! More pictures of my dragon are on my Ravelry page. Just click the caption!
Also, the accent color (the lighter one) is called "Fairy Tale". How appropriate is that?

If you would like to see more finished objects, check out Tami's Amis!
