Life Without a Stash

I had a lot of free time today, so I spent it the only way that anyone could possibly spend free time. Crafting! And watching Phineas and Ferb on Netflix. So that was fun. :)

Anyway. So here is an updated picture of Gromit. As you can see, I finished the head, making the whites of the eyes out of felt and (what I believe to have been) 10mm eyes. I found them in an unlabled Ziplock, but that sounds about right. I crocheted the body, and also sewed on the arms and legs. I'm not entirely happy with how everything got sewn together, but undoing the stitching is a pain, and it doesn't look horrible, so I left it.

I wish I could finish him before I got home next Thursday, but alas, I cannot. Remember how I said that I sent a load of stuff home with my mom on Tuesday? Well I sent my stash with her (at the advice of a friend. It was legitimate advice; I mean, I should be studying for finals next week) forgetting that the other two colors I need for Gromit, coffee and black Red Heart yarn (the color you see here is buff Red Heart. I don't normally use Red Heart, but the pattern recommended it), were still in the bag. So now my stash and the yarn I need are four hours away from me, Gromit, and my crochet hook. It's sad really, but I guess this is a good excuse for me to study for my finals. Hopefully I do that instead of Netflix...

Until next time!

Gromit and Beautiful Outlaw

Yep, it's Wednesday! Time for a little Yarn Along. Thank you Ginny from Small Things. If you would like to join the Yarn Along yourself, click here!

Okay, so, I'm working on a Gromit amigurumi that was commission by my grandmother as a present for a high school graduate in her 4-H club. As you can see I have the arms and legs completely done with all the fingers and toes sewn on (I would suggest doing that early in the project if you plan on making one by the way. It's a pain. You have to make and sew on 14 fingers and toes, and this is the second one that I made so I knew that I wanted to get this out of the way because they were a pain) and the head partly done. It's crocheted but not stuffed nor are the eyes completed yet.
I'm about to start reading Beautiful Outlaw: Experiencing the Playful, Disruptive Extravagant Personality of Jesus by John Eldredge. I let my mom borrow it before I read it (not something I usually do by the way) and she said that it was fantastic. I'm so excited to start it! Buuut when I got back to my room (I wrote this post during class. Oops) I could not find the book anywhere! I think I sent it home with my mom yesterday morning by accident with a group of preliminary things to move out so there will be a smaller trip next time. It was upsetting when I discovered this! So instead I took a picture of a devotional that I'm also reading off and on called Extreme Devotion. It's full of small stories (one per day) of people being martyred or persecuted for their faith in Jesus. It is a very powerful devotional.

So that's my yarn project and book for the week.
Again, if you want to join the yarn along click here.

I hope you have a fantastic Wednesday!

A Day of Remembrance

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you've all had a chance to see family, enjoy some delicious food, and remember our soldiers and veterans. I know that being home from college has been fantastic and I greatly enjoyed getting to see my family.

Sunday, my mom and I went to garage sales looking for an end table for my summer in Chicago and for college next fall. We didn't find any, but we did find a pretty legit lamp!

I really like it because of the owls. It was a little (understatement) dusty, so I took some closer up pictures for before and after. I haven't taken the clean pictures yet because I'm not done cleaning, but here is the before pictures.

The big owls at the top...
The baby owls at the bottom...
 And the back...
And the side. Overall it's a really adorable lamp. And it was only five dollars!

We had lunch at my grandmother's, a leftover lunch from a cookout yesterday, and while we were there my sister and my cousin taught me how to do a five strand braid. I also worked on refining my French Braid skills, and then we decided to combine the two and do a five strand French braid! Yeah, I know, challenging right? Because we added the French part to the existing complication of the five strands, we used two people for every braid. It worked out better than that sentence might imply. Here is my hair...

It got a little confusing at the bottom because of my layers (I got my hair cut on Saturday), but otherwise it's pretty good! We also did Charlotte's and Ashley's hair.

This is Charlotte's braid.

And this is Ashley's braid (She doesn't have a blog so I can't link to her).

I have to say, this was definitely a fun Memorial Day Weekend. I'm so thankful that I got to go home to see my family and friends, and I hope you got the same opportunity!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Drum Roll Please...

It's come! The moment of truth, do I get an RA position, or do I not? It has been a long week full of waiting and prayer, and I'm glad to say it's over. And the decision is...

I got hired! I'll be working in Scott Quad next year and absolutely cannot wait! And the awesome part is that I will not have to walk up and down a hill several times a day to get to class or Baker; I'll just have to walk down to get food! It's so exciting!

My friend Kayla made me a little origami sail boat. On the bottom it says "You will be a 'sailling success' <3 you - Kayla" What a sweetheart!

And the best part about this placement? I get to work with a really good friend of mine. She is also a leader in Cru at OU and she will be one floor above me. And her floor mate is an RA who does not love Jesus, but Jesus is totally calling him. It's going to be so magnificent to watch the Lord work in his heart. :)

Anyway. That's all today. Have a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend and God bless!

A trip to the Yarn Shop? I think so!

Okay! So, this has been the greatest birthday ever so far. Since my RA class is over, I was done with class at 10 today. I watched an episode of Drop Dead Diva, then my friend Kelsey and I drove to Nelsonville to visit the yarn store. It was actually called The Little Yarn Shop.

This is the information for the shop if you are in the area and would like to visit. Ms. Graham has many brands of yarn as well as projects for sale that she made herself. There are pillows, bags, scarves, dish clothes, the works!

These are two of the brands she has available. The Snuggle was the original reason that the trip to Nelsonville was made. My sister, Charlotte, needed another skein of the white Snuggle. It is a super soft, bulky weight yarn.  I bought the Lanaloft for myself. It's worsted weight and 100% wool (get it? Lanaloft, like lanolin from sheep? I thought it was punny). Then we stopped in at a quilt shop across the street. On the way back, we found a fresh produce market. Kelsey bought some strawberries and peaches. They were so good! :)

When I came back I found a present trail from my roommate. It started with this...

...on the door when I got back to the room. I opened the door...

... to find a trail of post-its leading...

... to presents by my fishbowl! The boxes on the left are Peanut and Pretzel m&ms. The bag on the right has a Reeses cupcake in it.

Doesn't it look delicious? Such a sweet roommate. :)

Also, remember the mini Corn Hole set that my grandparents made me? I took some pictures of that too!

This is it. They made the board, painted and decorated it, sewed the little bags to play with, and the big bag to carry them all in.

Also, this is the lining for the bag my sister made me. As you can see, I'm getting some good use out of it already (those projects will go up when finished as well)! :)

Oh, and by the way. Graham was so excited when I was taking pictures by his tank.

 Here he is!
Look how photogenic he is. :)

Oh, and Zane was jealous that Graham was getting all the attention so here he is!

This is Zane. But he was more angry that I was in his space. See the puffed out gills?

Well, either way, so far this has been a fantastic birthday! Later tonight I get to play kickball with my small group from Brookfield Church, and then have Bible Study with Campus Crusade! I can't wait!

Another Day Older...

Hello everyone!

Today is my birthday. Happy birthday to me! I know, it's so special right? I love my birthdays so. :) And today I get to celebrate by going to the Spinning Turtle Yarn & Gifts shop in Nelsonville, Ohio (If you're curious as to where Nelsonville is, the shop is supposedly here, but the other day when my sister stopped by the shop it took her three tries to find the correct address, so don't quote me). I get to go with one of my good friends from college. I'm so excited!

But then again, who wouldn't be excited for new yarn?

Hey all!

Sorry I did not post yesterday; my family came down to visit me at college this weekend and I have been spending the last several days with them. Since my birthday is on Tuesday, they brought me presents and really good cookies! The cookies were Cake Batter Pudding Cookies. If you get a chance you should bake some. They are very moist, yet solid, and so good. :)

This is the bag my sister made me, the Eight-Pocket Two-Tone Carryall Tote. It is so pretty! And I can use it to transport my works in progress.

My grandparents also made me something. They made me a mini Corn Hole set for my room next year and a bag to store it in. The set is Ohio U's colors! :)

We also went hiking at Strouds Run today. And at the Ridges. My family is very great and I'm so glad that they had the opportunity to come down this weekend.

Anyway. Until next time!

Hello again. :)

Okay, so today I had my last Resident Assistant training class. I should find out in the next couple of weeks- whoops someone at the door. Oh, it's a student senate party asking me to vote for them. Anyway. I should find out in the next couple of weeks whether or not I get hired. Hopefully I do and I can use the position for God's glory!

And that's another thing. The Lord is really working in me and is teaching me how to reach into a passage of the Bible and dig out all it's worth. That is totally new for me and I am loving the way He's working in my life.

Well, I think that's it. All I can do is wait and pray. And for all you curious crafters, I have not worked any more on any of my works in progress. I really need to get on that...

Anyway. Until next time!

Getting Stated

Hello! My name is Jenn. I am hoping to use this blog for many things, but before I get started I want to tell you a little about myself.

I am a college sophomore in Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru). I am four hours from my home town and my family, and this summer I will be in Chicago on a Summer Project with Cru. I am super excited and cannot wait!
I also love to knit, crochet, and bake. I am in the middle of several projects right now that school (and not to mention procrastination) are keeping me from finishing, but I know they will get done soon. I also have two little betta fish to keep me company, Graham and Zane. (And no they are not in the same bowl).

Well I guess that is about it! I will do my best to keep updating this and if anyone has any questions whether they are about faith or crafting, I will do my best to answer them. :)

Until next time!
Jenn
